Cycling with Parkinson's disease
Every year, on April 11th, people pay extra attention to Parkinson's disease during World Parkinson's Day. April 11th is the birthday of James Parkinson, he discovered this brain disorder in 1817. Parkinson's disease is a brain disease. The symptoms of Parkinson's disease are different for each patient, but in general the most common symptoms are: trembling, stiffness, fatigue, slower movement, difficulty in moving and talking. These symptoms make it increasingly difficult for patients to stay mobile and independent. In many cases, mobility aids can make the patient's life more pleasant, including Van Raam's special needs bicycles. Read in this article what Van Raam can do for people with Parkinson's disease.
vanRaam opens showroom with bicycles in the South of Germany
On our website you can find a lot of information about our special needs bikes. But if you want to know which vanRaam bike suits you the most, we always recommend to do a test ride. In addition to our new, modern factory and showroom with bicycles in Varsseveld (the Netherlands), we have now also opened a showroom / experience center in Germany. From March the 4th, 2019, it is possible to make an appointment at 'vanRaam Beratungszentrum Deutschland-Süd', the German showroom in Treuchtlingen, in the South of Germany. Here it is possible to take a test ride free of charge and to get advice.

Cycling with a brain disorder
Nearly 1 in 6 of world’s population suffer from neurological disorders, according to a UN report. Neurological disorders are, for example, Alzheimer and Parkinson disease, strokes, multiple sclerosis and brain injuries and neuroinfections. All these disorders have a major impact on the patient's life. Where people used to be mobile and independent, it is sometimes difficult to accept that walking around with the dog is sometimes no longer possible. First official workweek in new Van Raam premises is a fact
The last weeks few weeks were all about Christmas, New Year’s Eve and the beginning of 2019. Despite this, our employees were also finishing the new Van Raam factory. Meanwhile, the first official working week after the holidays is almost over and we look back on a week of finishing things up but also starting new things. What is the difference between a tricycle and a bike with side wheels?
When you aren’t able or don't dare to cycle on a standard bike with two wheels due to balance problems or the fear of falling, there are several options to ensure that you keep your mobility and get enough physical activity. For example, there is the possibility to place side wheels for adults on your two-wheel bike or you can check the possibilities of adaptive bikes (of course we would like to help you). In this article we explain briefly what the differences are between a tricycle and adult side wheels.
Moving the 3D laser machine to the new Van Raam factory
In our factory where we produce adaptive bicycles, we use a lot of modern machines. Many different steel pipes arrive in our production department, after which they are processed and eventually shaped into bicycle frames. Various machines are used to process the many pipes and a welding robot connects all parts together. It is quite a job to move all these machines to our new premises. That is why the large 3D laser machine has already been brought to the new Van Raam factory.
