Cycling is better together. vanRaam's tandem bikes are designed for two riders who want to share the road, whether that's a parent and child, two adults, or a carer and the person they support. Every model features a low or no step-through frame and can be customised with a wide range of options.
The vanRaam tandem bicycle range
vanRaam offers tandem bicycle for adults and children alike, each suited to different riders and different needs:
Fun2Go — a side-by-side tandem where both riders sit next to each other, each pedalling independently. The most social way to cycle together.
Twinny — a classic two-wheel tandem for two adults, riding one behind the other. Available as the Twinny Plus with three wheels for extra stability.
Kivo — a two-wheel tandem for a child and a parent or carer, riding one behind the other. Available as the Kivo Plus with three wheels for added confidence.
Who is a tandem bike for?
A tandem is the right choice when one rider wants to cycle but can't or doesn't want to ride independently. That might be because of a visual impairment, a balance condition, illness, injury, or other disability. On a vanRaam tandem, one person steers and controls the bike while the other pedals alongside them. Both riders contribute. Neither is just a passenger.
vanRaam tandem bicycles are used by families, schools, care organisations, and rehabilitation centres across the UK and Europe.
Cycling together is good for you
Riding a tandem is proper exercise for both riders, and it's social in a way that solo cycling isn't. You can talk easily throughout the ride, share the effort, and enjoy the outdoors together. vanRaam's tandems are also widely used as therapy bikes, where the combination of gentle exercise and close contact has a genuinely positive effect on wellbeing.
The freewheel hub option
vanRaam tandems like the Kivo and Kivo Plus come fitted with a switchable freewheel hub, which gives the main rider control over how much the co-rider pedals.
There are two modes with front steering:
The co-rider's pedals move in sync with the main rider's, so both pedal together.
The co-rider's pedals rotate freely and independently, so they can rest their feet or pedal at their own pace without contributing power.
With rear steering, a third mode is available where the co-rider can choose to pedal independently or not. This is a particularly useful option where one rider has limited strength or variable energy levels.
The freewheel hub can also be specified to the Twinny, Twinny Plus, and Fun2Go upon request.
Adding electric assist
All vanRaam tandem bikes are available with electric pedal assist. vanRaam's own Silent System is award-winning, near-silent, and individually programmable, making longer distances and more challenging terrain much more manageable for both riders.
Customise your vanRaam tandem
Every vanRaam tandem is built to order and can be configured with a wide range of options, including front or rear steering, footrests, a backrest, mirrors, and more. The Twinny and Twinny Plus are also available as split versions, making them easier to transport and store.
