The municipality of Essen (in Flanders, Belgium) purchased a wheelchair bike at the beginning of July. The Van Raam adapted bicycles are widely used, for example in care housing complexes. With the help of these bicycles, it is possible to cycle with the residents and make it easier for them to go outside again. Two different care centres in Belgium use Van Raam's VeloPlus wheelchair bicycle. The employees at day care centre DiMa in Meulebeke use the wheelchair bicycle to visit their 30 different visitors at home and the OLV senior care centre in Bornem has been given a wheelchair bicycle. Bicycle manufacturer Van Raam has been making special needs bicycles for more than 35 years. These include tricycles, side-by-side tandems, tandems and a mobility scooter bike. The range also includes wheelchair bicycles. With the wheelchair cargo bike VeloPlus you can cycle together with a wheelchair user.
The residential care facility Wissekerke in Bazel (Belgium) recently has an extra special needs bike, which is the Fun2Go duo bike. The residents can already use the VeloPlus wheelchair bike since 2016, but now they also have a duo bike. Volunteer Garry Pieters has been cycling around 120 wheelchair rides a year since 2016.
