The vanRaam OPair is a bike with a wheelchair in the front, for a safe, social, and genuinely enjoyable way to cycle together. The passenger travels facing forward with a clear view of the road ahead, while the rider has a clear view of both the road and the passenger throughout.
Designed around the passenger
The vanRaam OPair wheelchair bike is built around one idea: that the passenger should feel as comfortable and secure as the rider. The seat is depth-adjustable to suit different body shapes, with an angle-adjustable backrest and expandable side rests. Foldable footrests make getting settled easy, and the slightly angled front wheels provide added stability and a smoother, more comfortable ride.
The seat can be configured to suit both children and smaller adults, and a fully custom seat can be fitted if required. For passengers who need additional support, a headrest, belt, and further fixation options are all available.
A bike and a wheelchair in one
One of the most practical features of the vanRaam OPair wheelchair bike is the divisible frame option. With this fitted, the front section detaches easily from the cycling component and can be used independently as a wheelchair at your destination. No transfer, no separate wheelchair to transport, no extra effort.
Intelligent assistance built in
The OPair bike is equipped with vanRaam's Silent System electric pedal assist, making longer distances and hillier routes much more manageable. Near-silent, individually programmable, and with automatic lighting when the assist is switched on. The reverse function makes parking and manoeuvring in tighter spaces easy.
Make it yours
Choose your colour and configure the OPair wheelchair bike around the passenger's needs. Add a headrest, a belt, foot fixation, a child seat, or a split frame. Every bike is built to your specification, by hand, at the vanRaam factory in Varsseveld. View the full range of options here.
Van Raam dealer Bike-On from the United States checks in on a local family in Rhode Island that has been using the OPair wheelchair trike for over a year. The Ford family is a real biking family and son Jack joins them in the OPair. In this customer experience, Meghan Ford answers some questions such as: Why did they choose the OPair wheelchair trike? And how has it changed their lives? Watch the video below.
Unfortunately Niklas cannot ride a bike on his own, but with the OPair wheelchair bike he can once again go on bike tours with the whole family. Read more about this experience and watch the pictures around videos of the family.
vanRaam has its own electric pedal assist system, known as the Silent System. This system has been fully developed by vanRaam, specifically for the special needs bikes.
A detachable/divisible frame can be an useful addition at a vanRaam special needs bike. The advantage is that the bike becomes more compact and making it easier to transport.
With the 'adjustable seat width' option, the seat width becomes between 23.5 and 33.5 cm thanks to the two side supports, which also serve as armrests at the same time.
