Electric wheelchair bikes by Van Raam

For people who are in a wheelchair, it is not obvious to go out on a bicycle. At Van Raam we have two different models of wheelchair bicycles, with which cargo bike users can also make a bicycle ride. More and more institutions, organizations, and residential groups have a wheelchair bicycle. You can read their stories and experiences about their wheelchair bicycle in this article.

Opair wheelchair bike and VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike

  1. With the OPair wheelchair bike the wheelchair user takes place in front of the bicycle in a special seat that is mounted on the bicycle.

  2. With the VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike, the wheelchair user remains in his or her own wheelchair and he/she can be driven onto the platform onto the cargo bike in his wheelchair and secured.

Both the person in the front in the wheelchair and the driver of the cargo bike have good visibility and can enjoy the bike ride. The wheelchair bicycles have various options such as a divisible frame, belts or a mirror. The wheelchair bicycles are also available as an electric bicycle and can be supplied in any RAL color.

That the OPair wheelchair bike and VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike are popular is evident from the many messages that appear on the internet. User experience wheelchair bike OPair - Richard Hernández

User experience wheelchair bike OPair - Richard Hernández
Cycling eight hundred kilometers with a wheelchair bike without pedal support. That sounds like a challenge. A challenge that Richard Hernández accepted together with his disabled son Andrés. Together they cycled the pilgrimage route "Camino de Santiago". For centuries this route has been used by believers to pray at Santiago de Compostela, in the North-West of Spain, at the grave of Apostle James. Usually this route is taken by foot, but Richard and his son Andrés decided to make the trip from Roncesvalles with the OPair wheelchair bike and they called the route symbolic: "El Camino de Andrés". User experience wheelchair transport bike VeloPlus - Ton van Baaren
I am a volunteer at Zonnehuisgroep Vlaardingen (a care institution). As a volunteer, I regularly cycle with the patients, these are mainly patients of the psychogeriatric department. I was already familiar with a duo bike and a rickshaw, but since a year we also have a VeloPlus wheelchair bike. This bicycle has been donated to the care institution. There are several volunteers who cycle on the wheelchair bike. It is a pleasure to ride the bicycle. It is a pleasant way to take the residents outside and to bring them back safely.

Wheelchair bicycle for people with multiple disabilities

In Nieuw Buitenzorg, 9 homes in Leiderdorp, the Netherlands, people with severe multiple disabilities live in a unique location. They are looked after by a team of supervisors. The foundation 'Stichting Vrienden van Nieuw Buitenzorg' provides that little bit extra that the government does not finance. They have sponsored money so that a wheelchair bicycle could be purchased for the residents, who can now enjoy the wind blowing through their hair while cycling with the cargo bike.

You can find the following text at the photo below:

"I really enjoy cycling with thewheelchair bike. What a freedom and our residents really enjoy it. Lian feels the wind blow through her hair and mentions the birds and ducks. While we are chatting we cycle through the polder. Teun doesn't find the cows scary at all. He even dares to touch them. What a great job I have."
