The Van Raam rickshaw bike Chat is available for rides at ALTERAktiv Fahrrad in Siegen. Would you like to know why they do this and what their first experiences are? Then read on and also watch the video from the german television station WDR in "Lokalzeit".
Bringing people out of loneliness, giving them diversity in the day to day life and quality of life (again), so that they once again belong to the townscape. This is what the ALTERAktiv association takes care of. They offer an alternative form of exercise for senior citizens and people who cannot ride a bike themselves.
Volunteers drive the guests into the city and also along the Obernau reservoir. Werner Kiefert and Hiltraut Kern are also among these guests. They have been a couple for 25 years and were one of the first to try out the rickshaw.
Werner Kiefert planned this surprise for Hiltraut Kern as a belated gift for her 90th birthday. Hiltraut Kern used to come here 30 or 40 years ago, she said it was nice to see how nature has developed. They used to go for a walk together, but this is no longer possible, so they let themselves be driven around in a rickshaw.
Werner Kiefert says it's like winning the lottery for them. You often hear that people want to go to places where they used to come, the old town, the old apartment, but also trips to the cemetery or to the café to get back out. For them it remains a "great trip and the impression remains" says Werner Kiefert. (Source: Lokalzeit WDR)

The Van Raam rickshaw bicycle is designed for cycling together with people who can no longer participate in traffic alone. The rickshaw bicycle also serves as a remedy for the loneliness of older people.
