The vanRaam Kivo is a tandem bike for adult and child to ride together. The child sits at the front, the parent steers from behind, giving the child a clear view of the world ahead, and the parent a clear view of the child and surroundings. Simple, smooth, and genuinely enjoyable for both.
A tandem trike built for adult and child
The child's position at the front of the Kivo means they can see everything going on around them, making the ride engaging and exciting rather than passive. The parent at the rear has full control of steering and braking, with a clear sightline to their child throughout.
A low step-through on both positions makes getting on and off this kids tandem bike easy.
The standard switchable freewheel hub of the Kivo parent and child bike gives the parent control over how the child pedals. Two modes are available with front steering: both pedals linked so the child pedals in sync, or the child’s pedals running free so they can rest or move at their own pace. With rear steering, a third mode allows the child to pedal independently.
A social, active experience
Cycling together on the Kivo adult and child tandem bike is active for both riders. The child can pedal along and contribute at their own pace, while the parent provides support, steering, and confidence. It's a genuinely shared experience rather than one person simply carrying the other. Also available as Kivo Plus with three wheels for extra stability
Intelligent assistance built in
The Kivo tandem bike for adult and child is available with vanRaam's Silent System electric pedal assist. Near-silent, individually programmable, and with start assist for smooth pull-aways. Makes longer rides more accessible and takes the effort out of hillier routes.

Steven Boers (15) has Down's syndrome and lives in Zwolle, together with his parents and brothers. The Boers family is a very active family and they like to go out in the open air together. Since 2 years they have the Kivo child parent tandem of vanRaam and they enjoy it to the fullest. Mom Martine tells us more about Steven, their Kivo tandem and their experiences with the bike.
vanRaam has its own electric pedal assist system, known as the Silent System. This system has been fully developed by vanRaam, specifically for the special needs bikes.
In case of an incorrect cycling posture due to the ratio of leg and pedal length, a crank shortener can help. This reduces the distance, which also decreases the pedaling motion while cycling.
