The balance required at junctions, the effort on longer routes, and the nagging sense that a ride should feel easier than this. For a growing number of active adults, an electric tricycle is the upgrade they never knew they needed.
Do you have years of experience cycling on a two-wheel bike but can’t do that anymore? Or are you unable to cycle on a two-wheel bike due to a certain limitation? Then the trike bike (or tricycle) is an excellent way to keep moving. But how do you ride a trike bike? In this article, we will show you the best way to learn to ride a tricycle.
Fear of falling from a bike is rarely dramatic. It creeps in gradually: a wobble that shook your confidence, a near-miss that stayed with you longer than it should have, a growing awareness that the bike you've always ridden now demands more than you want to give it. For many cyclists, this quiet fear of falling off a bike is what ends their riding life. Not a decision, just a slow fade. It doesn't have to end that way.
Van Raam regularly sees news articles in which our adapted bicycles and their drivers play a leading role. We recently came across an article from the Hoogeveensche Courant (Dutch newspaper) that we definitely want so share with our readers. The article we encountered was about Wolda Fidom from Hoogeveen. Wolda wants to climb Mont Ventoux with her Easy Rider tricycle on 6 September 2019 and thereby raise money for KWF (Dutch Cancer Society) and the Hersenstichting (Dutch foundation dedicated to combat brain disorders). When you aren’t able or don't dare to cycle on a standard bike with two wheels due to balance problems or the fear of falling, there are several options to ensure that you keep your mobility and get enough physical activity. For example, there is the possibility to place side wheels for adults on your two-wheel bike or you can check the possibilities of adaptive bikes (of course we would like to help you). The rides get shorter, and then less frequent, until cycling quietly disappears from daily life altogether. It doesn't have to go that way. For many, a tricycle for seniors is a good solution.
At the end of August our colleague Marnix and Henry, an English end user of a Van Raam tricycle, made a nice trip to the Dutch National Park De Hoge Veluwe with the Easy Sport and the Easy Rider tricycles. Professional BMX-racer Jelle van Gorkom, who was severely injured during one of his practices in January 2018, is back on a bike. This bike is not his beloved BMX, but the Easy Sport, one of Van Raam’s tricycles.
All of Van Raam’s bicycles are manufactured to order and can be equipped with various features and accessories. Sometimes Van Raam does not have a suitable bicycle for one of its customers and so a special custom made bicycle is designed and manufactured.
In 2009, the then 70-year-old Gunda Krauss from Germany cycled on her three-wheeled bicycle Easy Rider from Munich to Rügen. This trip was more than 1200 kilometers and together with her dog Sauser, this trip took 49 days. For several years, Gunda has been working to write a book about this adventurous journey. With the help of crowdfunding, Gunda hopes to raise money so that is possible to release her book in the summer of 2018.
