Tricycle bicycle for elderly

Your bike can change from a convenience to a danger when you get older, your sense of balance gets worse and you are scared to fall when you cycle. Fortunately, more and more seniors have the solution to stay mobile and opt for a tricycle. With this bike you do not have to keep your balance, you keep moving and you remain independent.

The tricycle

A tricycle is a bicycle with two wheels at the front or rear. Because of the third wheel you do not have to keep a balance yourself and you are stable and safe. Even when you are standing still you can stay seated on the bike and you will not fall over.

Hit the road safe and be independent with the tricycle

Are you afraid or no longer able to cycle on a regular bicycle? Have you ever fallen off your bicycle and did this make you insecure? Or are you getting more and more trouble to keep your balance? Then perhaps a tricycle is the solution!

Being afraid or not being able to cycle on a regular bike is not always a reason to buy a mobility scooter. The tricycle is not as well known as an intermediate step between bicycle and mobility scooter, but gradually you see more and more seniors who opt for a tricycle. A bike with three wheels ensures that you can keep cycling, even if you have a poorer balance. With the tricycle you keep moving and you keep your freedom.

Seniors can keep cycling thanks to the tricycle

More and more older people who no longer dare to cycle on a normal two-wheeler bike discover the advantages of a tricycle and can therefore continue to cycle. Especially seniors who can and want to move more and more often opt for the tricycle instead of a mobility scooter. Read some stories from seniors who cycle on a tricycle or the story of Herman de Grijff in the article: "Hundred-year-old man cycles on Van Raam Easy Rider tricycle".

I support the tricycle because I can keep moving and I can come everywhere if I have to. I am afraid to do that with a regular bike.

Mr. Ermest (81): Supporter of the tricycle

"I support the tricycle because I can keep moving and I can come everywhere if I have to. I am afraid to do that with a regular bike. When I want to cross the street with a regular bike, I had to get off the bike. With the tricycle I dare to cross the street."

Mr. Heinen (75): Your world becomes much broader

"If I had to tell someone, I would say: Do it, your world will become much broader and otherwise your world will become smaller and smaller."

Mr. Heineman (91): I really enjoy the Easy Rider tricycle

"I have Attached a picture of the Easy Rider tricycle during my vacation in Friesland. As a 91-year-old, I really enjoy the bike, both at home at the Veluwe and further away, I have driven hundreds of kilometers."

Leo Snijders (82): I am very happy with my tricycle

"I am very happy with my bicycle, I use it daily in fair weather. As a bicycle during a bike tour and as a mobility scooter in the city or at our beautiful theme park ‘De Efteling’."

Geertje van Buuren (83): With a tricycle you have more certainty that you do not fall

"A mobility scooter is beautiful, of course, but you're always sitting. You're sitting at home and you're sitting outside again, that's the beauty of a tricycle, that you keep moving. I ride every day and I do my shopping, I do not longer have to go by bus and I do not have to call my children, I am on the road all afternoons and I feel free again. "Your range increases and with a tricycle you have more certainty that you do not fall.

Do not buy a mobility scooter too fast, I think that's a shame. You can keep moving. I would like to say that. That they do not choose to quickly, because this is so nice, you just have to try it."

Practicing with a tricycle

If you ride a tricycle for the first time, you have to get used to it. Because the bike has three wheels and keeps itself in balance, you must unlearn to keep your balance yourself. Especially elderly people who have cycled on a bike with two wheels for years should remember that a tricycle cycles completely differently. It is therefore very important to practice first, because you do not have to use your sense of balance - what you use on a regular bicycle. Read tips for cycling on a tricycle.

In addition, it is very important to know that each type of tricycle has different driving characteristics. For example, the Easy Rider tricycle from Van Raam is very different from a Maxi tricycle.
