Exercising with varying energy

Old age, physical disability, mental impairment, a disorder, or an illness. These are some examples where highly changing or varying energy levels can be one of the symptoms. It can have many causes.

The result remains the same: in a brief period of time, you can go from having lots or enough energy to having little or no energy. When energy levels are (very) low, moving can seem almost impossible, but this is not necessarily so.

Cycling independently with varying energy levels

It is useful for people with varying energy levels if they can easily switch between de levels of support. If you have less energy, it is convenient if your bike can compensate for this. The Easy Go offers this solution. If you have varying energy levels and you can and want to cycle independently, the Van Raam Easy Go mobility scooter may be suitable for you. It is an (electric) tricycle with pedal support, but you can also use it as a mobility scooter. You can choose between 3 modes:

  1. Cycling independently without using the pedal support

  2. Cycling independently, but with the assistance of the pedal support

  3. Using the tricycle as a mobility scooter, where you no longer need to cycle by yourself

It is very easy to switch between the three modes. For example, if your energy levels drop, you can easily switch from the bicycle function to the mobility scooter function. This bike comes standard with the Van Raam pedal support.

Cycling together with varying energy levels

If you do not want to, or cannot, cycle independently with varying energy levels, Van Raam has the option of cycling together with someone. You both sit on the same bike. When your energy level during a bike ride no longer allows you to continue cycling, the other person can continue cycling while you don’t have to do anything. The bikes in the Van Raam product range for cycling together with varying energy levels are:

  1. Fun2Go duo bike and FunTrain duo bike trailer

  2. Twinny two-wheeled tandem or Twinny Plus tricycle tandem for two adults

  3. Kivo two-wheeled tandem or Kivo Plus tricycle tandem for a parent or companion with a child

Someone with varying energy levels can cycle along (optional) with the above-mentioned bicycles with the switchable freewheel hub. On the Fun2Go, FunTrain, Twinny, and Twinny Plus, this is an option that can be ordered with the bike. On the Kivo and Kivo Plus, this option is standard on the bikes. You can read more about this function below.

Switchable freewheel hub on Van Raam bicycles

With the switchable freewheel hub, the main cyclist can choose from three cycling modes for the co-cyclist:

  • The co-cyclist can cycle along at his own pace and in his own gear.

  • The co-cyclist must cycle along with the pace of the main driver, the pedals move in sync with each other.

  • The co-cyclist cannot cycle along. The pedals can move but the function is (temporarily) disabled

With this option, cycling with varying energy levels can be a solution for someone. If the main cyclist notices that the co-cyclist has too little energy to cycle along during the bike ride, the cycling function can be switched by the main cyclist so the co-cyclist can cycle along at his own pace. This allows you to still enjoy a nice bike ride despite varying energy levels.
