Customer experience Fun2Go duo bike - Erik and Monica

Erik and Monica have been enjoying their Fun2Go duo bike since March 2026. They go for leisure rides in their local area and also take the bike with them to other places. Sitting side by side and cycling at their own pace makes every ride an enjoyable day out for them.
From mobility scooter to duo bike
“We’re Erik, 66, and Monica, 69. We’ve been married for 46 years and are both retired. I’m a nurse and still work a few hours a week in my own business. Monica has several medical conditions. She used to ride a step-through bike, but at a certain point she found it difficult to get on and off. As a result, she fell regularly. Eventually, Monica got a mobility scooter. That worked well enough, but we could no longer cycle together. I cycled while Monica rode her mobility scooter. It wasn’t always enjoyable, and we couldn’t really cover longer distances. So I started looking for a duo bike. We tried out several models, from older to newer versions. After a while, we knew exactly what we wanted. In March 2026, we found an almost-new duo bike in matte agate grey on Marktplaats, a Dutch website for buying and selling second-hand goods. It was five months old and had covered only 500 kilometres. It felt like new to us. From March to September 2026, we’ve cycled about 1,100 kilometres on it.”

Considering buying a second-hand duo bike?
Erik and Monica bought their Fun2Go second-hand and had a vanRaam dealer adapt it to suit their needs. It’s a good idea to check carefully beforehand whether the second-hand duo bike meets your needs and what condition it’s in. Read all the tips in the article: “Buying a second-hand side-by-side tandem: tips and points to consider”.
Cycling together instead of physiotherapy
“After Monica had knee surgery in September 2025, she had physiotherapy. During her sessions, she cycled on an exercise bike. I thought: we could do that together too. Since then, we’ve used the duo bike for leisure rides.
At first, we mainly cycled in and around Almere, but after a while we wanted to go further afield. So I bought a trailer for the car. With three loading ramps, I can easily ride the duo bike onto the trailer. The thumb throttle on the handlebars makes this easy. We now take the bike to other places and really make a day out of it. It feels like a day on holiday. Sitting side by side means we can chat as we cycle.
This duo bike has opened up a whole new world for Monica. She gets to visit places she’s never been to before. It also helps her stay active and fit. Since we started cycling together, she hasn’t needed physiotherapy.”

Plenty of accessories for comfort and convenience
“We’ve adapted the duo bike to suit our needs with various options. The swivel seat, footrests with cups and armrests help Monica get on and off and cycle more comfortably and safely.
Our eleven-year-old Labrador, Lola, often comes along too. There’s a homemade structure at the back for her bowl. The walking stick fits in the double walking-stick holder. We carry everything we need in the spacious basket and the bike bags.
For added security, we use several locks and a tracker. The duo bike also has an extra mirror and two batteries, so we can go on longer rides. At home, we’ve built a shed with lighting where we keep the bike and charge the batteries.”

Our experience with the duo bike
“The quality and sturdiness of the duo bike are major advantages for us. We’re mobile and can go wherever we like. The rider and passenger can change gear and pedal independently of one another. I naturally cycle at a faster pace than Monica. She can set her own pace and simply stop pedalling whenever she wants.
The bike performs well on ordinary roads. Cycling up a hill, such as a dyke, from a standing start is quite demanding. The seat suspension could also be better. Suspension would make the ride more comfortable, and we’d give the bike a 10. As it is, we give the duo bike a 9.
At first, you need to bear in mind that the bike is wide. This can make it difficult, or sometimes impossible, to get between bollards.
The bike also comes with a substantial price tag, especially with all the extras. But you get a lot in return. We tried out the duo bike several times at different dealers before buying it. That meant we knew exactly what we wanted. After we’d bought it, we found that Monica’s seat wasn’t working optimally. The team at Walraven Fietsen in Sinderen helped us very well in their lovely, clean workshop. They wanted to make sure the duo bike was just right for us. The whole process was very pleasant, helped along by the lovely coffee and hot chocolate. It was a good purchase, and the bike is well worth the money.”
