Unique riding characteristics of the Fun2Go duo bike optional shift hub Van Raam

The Fun2Go duo bike is optionally available with a shift hub. This is a switch that allows you to determine how the passenger pedals along. The shift hub has 3 modes that you can switch between when the bike is stationary: mode A, mode Off, and mode B. Watch the video and read more in this article about what these modes entail and how to safely use the shift hub.

Mode A: 8-speed hub

In Mode A, the 8-speed hub, the rider and passenger can pedal independently or keep their feet still. They cycle in the same gear and the passenger assists with the propulsion of the bike.

This mode is ideal when both cyclists want to actively participate in the ride. This is a good option if you want to encourage the passenger to keep moving, without it being compulsory.

Mode Off: freewheel hub

In Mode Off, the freewheel hub, the rider and passenger cycle independently of each other, each at their own pace. The passenger does not have to pedal and does not contribute to the propulsion.

This is a good mode for passengers who want to cycle along at a relaxed pace or simply enjoy the ride. The rider maintains full control, while the passenger still experiences the feeling of cycling along.

Mode B: fixed-gear mode

In Mode B, the fixed-gear mode, the passenger must always pedal. The passenger’s pedals rotate as long as the bike is moving, even if the rider keeps their pedals still.

This mode is mainly suitable for rehabilitation or training, as the passenger remains constantly active and the muscles stay in motion. It can also contribute to improved fitness and a healthy cycling rhythm. Closely monitor the passenger in this mode, as the fixed-gear mode requires more effort and is not suitable for everyone.

Note: Do not cycle faster than 10 km/h in Mode B to prevent incidents.

Safe cycling with the shift hub

Good coordination between rider and passenger is important. Always discuss which mode you will use before setting off, so that both know what to expect.

  • Check whether the selected mode matches the goal of the ride and the condition and comfort of the passenger.
  • Build up the ride gradually so that the passenger does not become overburdened. Pay particular attention to this in mode B.
  • If it's necessary you can switch between the modes at different moments during the ride to adjust the effort to the situation.

Note: Operate the shift hub only when the Fun2Go duo bike is stationary.

Optional foot fixation and footplate

Foot fixation and/or a foldable footplate can be fitted to the Fun2Go duofiets. The foot fixation provides the passenger with greater stability and security while cycling. Note: when riding in mode B, do not exceed 10 km/h, or go slower if this is too fast for the passenger. At higher speeds, the foot may slip out of the foot fixation, which can cause injury. Always check in advance that the foot fixation is properly secured.

The footplate can be unfolded if the passenger is no longer able or willing to pedal. Note: the footplate may only be used in mode Off. This prevents collisions between the pedals and the footplate or the passenger.
