Useful checklists

Click below to view the full checklists.

  • Practise as a passenger first.
  • Then practise as the rider with an instructor or experienced companion as the co-rider.
  • Practise cornering.
  • Practise braking.
  • Practise using the starting aid.
  • Practise reversing.
  • Practise with speed bumps and ramps and always take them straight on.
  • Practise getting used to the size of the bike especially at the rear.
  • Adjust the seat correctly.
  • Adjust the handlebars correctly.
  • Check that the seat and handlebars are securely fastened.
  • Check that the brakes are working properly.
  • Check the tyre pressure.
  • Make sure the tyre pressure is at least 3 bar.
  • Check that the lights work.
  • Check that the battery is sufficiently charged.
  • Check the wheels handlebars and saddle for play and unusual noises.
  • Before setting off check that the seat belt is fastened.
  • Check that the passenger’s feet are positioned correctly or securely fastened.
  • Use footrests when necessary.
  • Do not cycle under the influence of alcohol drugs or medication that affects your cycling behaviour.
  • Check that loose or wide clothing cannot get caught in the chain or spokes.
  • Also pay attention to the passenger’s clothing.
  • We recommend wearing a helmet.

Staying safe on the road

Every ride is different. That is why it is important to pay close attention to who is sitting next to you and where you are cycling and to the conditions. A calm riding style gives the passenger confidence and keeps the ride pleasant for both of you.

  • The main rider is always responsible for the safe use of the side-by-side tandem.

  • The recommended maximum speed is 15 km/h. This often feels more comfortable and safer for the passenger. The technical limit of the electric Fun2Go is 20 km/h.

  • Ride slowly through bends. A tricycle can tip over when cornering at high speed.

  • Only ride on a level and firm surface. Preferably choose wide quiet and easily accessible cycle paths.

  • Take extra care in rain ice or snow. The braking distance may be longer and the surface may be slippery.

Good to know

  • Many Fun2Go side-by-side tandems are equipped with a gear hub. Position B is for therapeutic pedalling by the co-rider. Use this position up to a maximum of 10 km/h.

  • The reverse function is activated when you pedal backwards.

  • When reversing the co-rider’s pedals can also turn backwards. This can create a risk of entrapment when using footrests or the foot plate.

Parking and getting on and off

Getting on and off is easiest when the bike is standing firmly still. Take your time and secure the bike properly. Guide the passenger step by step.

  • Apply the parking brake first. Check that the bike is stable and allow the passenger to get on or off calmly.

  • Never leave the passenger alone on the bike.

  • Lock the bike when leaving it unattended.

Slopes and obstacles

When cycling on slopes and over speed bumps and obstacles it is more important to stay calm than to go fast. Look well ahead. Reduce your speed and always take obstacles straight on.

  • Always take obstacles at low speed and ride straight towards them. Avoid obstacles higher than 5 cm.

  • Do not cycle on slopes steeper than 10%.

  • Ride slowly on slopes and brake in good time when riding downhill.

  • Are you stationary on a slope? Set off calmly and lean slightly forwards.

  • Is the bike rolling backwards on a slope? Brake gradually.

  • Do not use steep slopes with a rollator holder wheelchair holder or full basket.

Downloads for organisations and volunteers

Do you use the side-by-side tandem within an organisation for example with volunteers or different riders? Clear instructions are important. Download the useful checklists and keep them with the bike.
