Stijn, together with his father Gert-Jan, is the owner of Walraven Fietsen in the Netherlands. Since 2020, they have been selling vanRaam bicycles, and in this article, Stijn shares more about what makes Walraven Fietsen unique as a premium dealer.

1. Why did Walraven Fietsen become a vanRaam premium dealer?

“Together with my father Gert-Jan, I, Stijn, am the owner of Walraven Fietsen. The company in Sinderen has existed since 2020. What started as a small, local initiative has grown into a specialized family business in adapted bicycles from vanRaam, with a spacious showroom, our own workshop, and fast delivery from stock. With a personal and involved approach, we help people every day to gain more mobility and freedom. Our team is small but driven and knowledgeable; we like to take our time with every customer.   

Since the founding in 2020, I have been working full-time in the company. I mainly focus on the technical side: I am responsible for the workshop, maintenance, and delivery of the bicycles. My father Gert-Jan is the main contact for customers and guides the sales process in the showroom. We complement each other well and together ensure that every customer is personally assisted and leaves with a perfectly adjusted bicycle.

Recently, we became a vanRaam premium dealer. We believe in the quality and customization options of vanRaam bicycles. Because we have seen for years how much difference these bicycles make for people with disabilities or reduced mobility, we wanted to take a step further in service, expertise, and assortment. As a premium dealer, we can optimally guide our customers.”

2. How do you help customers looking for a vanRaam bike?

Test ride

“For a test ride, customers can simply drop by during opening hours; making an appointment is not necessary. We take our time to try out different models and like to think along about what best suits the customer's wishes and possibilities. Because we have many vanRaam bicycles in stock, we can often deliver a suitable bicycle immediately or prepare it quickly. We have various options in stock that we can install during the test ride. Think of crank shorteners, foot fixation, armrests, backrests, cane holders, mirrors, and other popular options and accessories. This way, customers can immediately experience whether an option fits their situation.”

Purchase and delivery

“After the test ride, we draw up a clear quotation. Upon agreement, the bicycle is technically checked in our workshop and we fully adjust everything to the user. Upon delivery, we take the time to explain everything thoroughly and ensure that the bicycle is perfectly adjusted before we leave. We can also arrange a suitable bicycle insurance right away, so the customer can head out with peace of mind. Because we work with our own workshop and ample stock, we can act quickly and the customer does not have to wait long. It is also possible to trade in your current (vanRaam) bicycle with us.”

3. How does Walraven Fietsen assist customers who already own a vanRaam bike?

“We offer service and maintenance in our own workshop and, if necessary, can also support on location with our mobile workshop. For warranty cases, we contact vanRaam directly and ensure a quick solution. Our customers also know where to find us for small adjustments or replacement of parts. We think along and solve problems, even after the purchase.”

For him, that bicycle meant more than just mobility; it gave him back a bit of control over his life.

4. What is your best customer experience with a vanRaam bike?

“One experience that has always stayed with me is that of a former top athlete in motorsports. After a serious accident, he became paralyzed on one side of his body. Where he was once used to racing at full speed around circuits, all of that suddenly disappeared. Together, we looked at the possibilities. In the end, we put together an Easy Sport completely tailored to his needs, with one-sided controls and various adaptations for extra stability and support. He cycled intensively with it for a year, used the bicycle in his rehabilitation, and thus regained confidence in his body. His perseverance and the fact that we could contribute to that made a deep impression. For him, that bicycle meant more than just mobility; it gave him back a bit of control over his life. That is exactly why we do this.”

5. What makes Walraven Fietsen unique as vanRaam premium dealer?

“With us, you don’t get a quick sale, but personal attention. Customers appreciate our accessible atmosphere and extensive guidance throughout the entire process. We have many models in stock, so customers can quickly take a test ride and we can deliver quickly. In addition, we not only supply new bicycles but also ‘nearly new’ vanRaam models that are technically fully checked and readjusted in our workshop. This makes it possible for customers to purchase a reliable adapted bicycle even with a limited budget.

Furthermore, before we started Walraven Fietsen, I worked as a mechanic at vanRaam in Varsseveld, the Netherlands. I bring this experience with me every day in our workshop and in contact with customers. I know the bicycles inside out and know exactly what to pay attention to when adjusting and delivering. That technical background ensures that we can not only deliver quickly but also truly offer customization. We think along in every individual situation, from advice to delivery. We only sell vanRaam bicycles. We also offer various models for rental. This makes us accessible, involved, and unique as a premium dealer.”

“We are easily accessible by car and bicycle. Our showroom is located in the countryside of Sinderen. There is clear signage. There is ample parking available, and parking is free and right at the door. By public transport, it is a bit more difficult, but in consultation, we can arrange something for customers coming by public transport.”
