Karin van Prooijen
Karin van Prooijen has myasthenia gravis (a muscle disease) and a form of dystonia (a disorder in the tension of the muscle). Because of this, cycling on a regular bike became more and more difficult for her. With her new Easy Rider tricycle she gets on her bike every day with great pleasure and even a wish came true. Karin tells more about her experiences.

My name is Erik, I am 58 years old and I am from Utrecht. My hobbies are cooking, playing golf, sailing and cycling. Because of balance problems, cycling on a normal bike is no longer possible. The Easy Sport recumbent tricycle is my first adapted bicycle, which I have been using since July 2019. Before that I rode one of Moof S3 and a racing bike.

In 2008 I turned over with my bike and broke my knee. I underwent surgery during which the surgeons inserted at metal plate with ten screws into my lower leg. I had to stay in bed for 3 months because I wasn’t allowed to put pressure on my leg. I had to use a knee CPM (continuous passive motion) machine 7 hours a day to learn to bend my leg again and had to practice a lot. I walked on crutches for 6 months after the accidents and it took me a year to fully recover.

I have been the proud owner of a Midi tricycle from Van Raam for 1,5 years now. One can say that I am in love with this bicycle. This I often say to people when they ask for my bicycle. And no, I am not insane!
