Reason for purchasing a Van Raam special needs bike

I am a 60 year old lady who has quite severe osteoarthritis in both knees. This has stopped me from being able to ride a regular bike. In order to use a regular bike I had to raise the saddle so high that I could not mount and dismount the bike safely. I also struggled with the high instep of my regular bikes. I tried bikes with a very low instep in Germany but still struggled with the height of the saddle. I supported a gentleman using a tandem bike and noticed how well I could ride a “sit back” bike. I did some online research, visited the Van Raam website and came across the Van Raam Balance bike.

Visiting the Van Raam factory in the Netherlands

I visited the Van Raam showroom in Varsseveld in October 2019. The service was excellent. I was privileged to get a "real" tour, it was fantastic. My special thanks goes to the lovely Geo Wassink for taking me back to the train station. What an excellent customer service! Back in South Wales I ordered the bike at Tomcat in Gloucester. I waited several weeks and then the bike was delivered to the dealer in Gloucester where I collected it in October 2019. The delivery of the bike and the contact with my dealer is very good.
 

My Balance low step through bike in my daily life

I absolutely love my Balance bike, my "Dutchy". I can use the bike again for shopping, going to work and recreational. It has given me a new lease of life. I cycle mainly on asphalted roads and forest roads, this goes very well. I haven’t kept a record of how many kilometers I have cycled so far but it is a lot. The exercise I get by using the bike is very beneficial to my knees.
