Looking for a 26-inch electric low entry bike? The wheel size of a bicycle influences how you cycle. But what does 26 inches actually mean? And what is the difference compared to 24 or 28 inches? In this article, we explain what inch sizes indicate about an electric low entry bike, and how to discover what suits you.

Why choose an electric low entry bike?

An electric bike with a low entry frame is designed for comfort and safety. You don't have to lift your leg high to get on, making it ideal if you have reduced mobility or experience issues with your hips or knees. Even if you cycle with luggage or find getting on and off difficult in traffic, a low entry frame offers great convenience.

Thanks to the pedal assistance of an e-bike, you need to use less force, making cycling more enjoyable. You ride in a relaxed position and can get on and off easily, without hassle.

At vanRaam, you can count on extra reassurance. Our low entry bike, the Balance, has been specially developed so that you can place both feet on the ground when you stop. This gives you both confidence and control.

Who is an electric low entry bike suitable for?

An electric low entry bike with 24 or 26 inch wheels is perfect for anyone who needs extra stability, comfort and ease of use. For example:

  • Cyclists who have difficulty with balance or stability
  • People who stop frequently; for instance in the city or during recreational cycling
  • Users with limited mobility or joint problems
  • Older cyclists who want to feel more confident when getting on and off
  • Those who prefer to cycle calmly and comfortably at lower speeds

What does 26 inch actually mean for a low entry bike?

The inch size of a bike refers to the diameter of the wheel. On a 26 inch bike, the wheel is therefore about 66 cm in size. This is slightly smaller than the standard 28 inch wheels you see on many city bikes. Our low entry bike, the vanRaam Balance, has a wheel size of 24 inches, with wide tyres. So, an even smaller size.

Unsure between 24, 26 or 28 inch for your low entry bike?

There are many searches for a low entry bike with 26 inch wheels, or even an electric bike with a low entry frame. But bigger isn't always better. Certainly not for those who have difficulty with balance, or are looking for extra safety when getting on and off. We deliberately choose 24 inch wheels for our low entry bikes.

Why we choose 24 inch for our electric low entry bikes

More control and stability

A bike with 24 inch wheels and a low frame helps you get on and off easily. And those wide tyres? They absorb bumps and increase contact with the road. You'll feel that immediately in the stability.

Better manoeuvrability

Small wheels make steering lighter. When cornering or when you're just starting to cycle, you'll notice that the bike responds quickly and easily to your movements. That feels smooth and gives you control. The wide tyres provide grip without making pedalling heavier. Large 28-inch wheels on a low entry bike often feel somewhat heavier and more cumbersome, especially at low speeds.

Comfort at low speeds

Thanks to the smaller wheels and wide tyres, the low entry bike remains well-balanced, even when cycling slowly. You'll notice that the handlebars turn lightly and the bike responds predictably, without you having to correct it. If you cycle a bit faster, for example on an electric low entry bike, the suspension in the tyres and the sturdy frame still ensure a comfortable and safe ride.

But what about the quality of those wheels and tyres on your low entry e-bike?

You don't need to worry about that. In our factory in Varsseveld, we spoke all wheels ourselves. This allows us to properly control and improve quality. Durability, comfort and safety are always our priorities.

To ensure that each wheel is sturdy enough, we test them in our own test centre. On a treadmill, we simulate all sorts of situations: bumps, potholes, speed bumps. This way we can see exactly how the wheel behaves under load.

Choose an electric low entry bike that truly suits you

An electric low entry bike should above all suit you well. At vanRaam, we therefore look beyond just the wheel size of your low entry bike. We consider comfort, safety and the right frame size for your height and usage.

The Balance is one of the most popular low entry bikes for good reason. With smaller wheels, wide tyres and a clever design, you can cycle worry-free, whether you cycle daily or mainly recreationally.
