Giovanni: “However good you think it is here, it’s better”
Giovanni Vullo has been working at vanRaam since 2022. “As an account manager in a sales role, I build relationships with dealers. I did that for 3 years in the United Kingdom (UK) and now in Italy. What's great is that we create partnerships with dealers. That fits with vanRaam, because vanRaam gives you a family feeling and it's very professional.”
How does vanRaam move you?
“I always say this: however good you think it is, it’s better. It's so impressive, it's such an amazing facility. I think it's like the Mercedes of bikes. The quality, engineering and finish are just so good. It's a fantastic company. It's got fantastic processes and people stick to them."
How did you come to move to Italy?
“I wanted to move to Italy with my family. So I asked my manager if vanRaam would consider the possibility of me relocating to Italy. The response was very quick, within 48 hours. I could move. The whole process from the yes to the actual move took one year and three months. It gave me enough time to change my plans. The time was given not only to prepare for Italy, but also prepare for my absence in the UK as well.”
How do you experience the impact of your work?
“I was in a cycle club in the South of England. I might be Italian, but I'm not emotional in that sense. And I remember a bus with this group of kids with autism. There was this one boy, he put his foot down and said no.”
“But we have a side by side bike. It's called the Fun2Go. You can see each other. You can hold hands. You can talk to each other. They're not behind you. They're not in front of you. They're next to you. And I see a transformation. A slow process of a young boy finally getting on the bike with somebody he trusted. He had the time of his life. And then from that moment he was on the bike, smiling, laughing. He went onto a single bike just on his own, a tricycle. So he's gone from one extreme to not wanting to get off.”
I had a lump in my throat. What we do is a positive change to people's lives.
“And I remember getting in the bus afterwards. You don't really share this with anyone. I had a lump in my throat. So that's the kind of feeling you get. Yeah, it does make a big impact. What we do is a positive change to people's lives.”
What do you think of vanRaam as an employer?
“You've always got a direct person that is there to support you. It's like if you win, you win together. If you lose, you lose together. You're not isolated. And like I said, however good you think it is, it's better.”
How do you stay connected?
“We have a quarterly meeting where the sales team comes together from all the countries. That works out to be around three or four days each time. Obviously we have the summer party. We have the Christmas party, because the Dutch love to party. You're always welcome to go. Also one of my colleagues is coming here next week and we're going to spend three or four days together as well. So we do go quarterly, but I mean if there is a need or a want, you can go more frequently.”
