I have been riding my Easy Rider tricycle for four years now, and I have lost count of the number of kilometres I have cycled. I enjoy bike rides and weekend trips again. I am completely convinced!
Getting active again
“My name is Anita Charrier. I am retired and live in a small village in the Vendée. After an operation, I lost strength in my left arm. My surgeon encouraged me to become active and get moving again. I immediately thought of cycling!”
A dealer who inspires confidence
“I had previously tried a tricycle with a saddle. However, since my operation, I have had balance problems and fell several times. This made me feel very insecure. I even wondered whether I should stop cycling altogether.
I discovered vanRaam online and contacted Joël Renaudin from AFAC Cycles Location in Thorigné-en-Charnie, in the Mayenne department. He immediately suggested that I go for a test ride.
Joël cycled alongside me when I tried vanRaam’s Easy Rider. He stayed beside me to reassure me. Thanks to the three wheels and the seat instead of a saddle, I finally felt stable. Joël also suggested armrests, but in the end they were not necessary. I immediately loved the bike.”
Bike rides turn into journeys
“My Easy Rider has been custom-built. All the controls are on the right-hand side, so I can operate them with my stronger arm. I added a bell, a mirror and puncture-resistant tyres. I also had an indicator fitted. This makes me feel safer when turning, because I cannot extend my arm.
Since then, nothing has stopped me. I have cycled 4,500 kilometres in four years. Cycling along cycle paths is a small moment of happiness for me. My daughter lives about ten kilometres away, and I always cycle to her house.
My husband and I also enjoy going away for a weekend whenever we get the chance. He fitted a bike carrier to the drawbar of our caravan so that the tricycle can come with us. We have been to Dijon and Nevers, and more recently to La Rochelle. When we are on holiday, we cycle at least 30 kilometres a day. On one occasion, I even cycled 70 kilometres!
When I cycle, I take my time. I do not like going fast, so I brake carefully when going downhill. I also take corners slowly to remain as stable as possible. I only set the pedal assistance to its highest setting when cycling uphill.”
I tell other people about it and help them take the step too. I would not want to be without my bike.
