Who am I?

Heinz: “I am 67 years old and live in a suburb of Mönchengladbach in Germany. I have been retired for four years, after working for more than forty years in social housing. What makes me happy is our lovely house with a small garden, my curiosity for new things, and enjoying writing and reading. In addition, cycling and being active is a big hobby of mine. I love going out into nature. However, I am definitely a fair-weather cyclist. In the city, I use my bike for small errands, or to cycle to the library or for a doctor’s visit.”

My Balance Low Step Ebike

“With my previous bike, a Riese & Müller Swing traditional two-wheeler, I fell twice. I wanted to avoid a third time, so I started looking for bikes that could help prevent accidents. That’s why I chose the Balance low step ebike. I bought it in February 2022 and since then, I have never been in an unsafe situation again! I tried out the Balance on the test track at vanRaam in the Netherlands. I think it’s fantastic that vanRaam offers cycling solutions to help people with disabilities.

I chose the Balance because of its special design. You can always keep both feet on the ground thanks to the low step and the position of the saddle. A former colleague once said: ‘What a funny bike you have!’ I told her that the bike and I found each other. After that, I explained the special seating position to her. She was also very enthusiastic.

My bike is equipped with electric pedal assistance with a front wheel motor and SmartGuard tyres. The technology of the low step ebike has worked perfectly so far. The workshop at Dreirad-Zentrum Tönisvorst carries out maintenance every two years. I also bought the bike there. Because our region is quite flat, I usually cycle in eco mode. This gives me a range of about 100 kilometers with the battery. I don’t experience any limitations because of the battery. By now, I have already cycled about 4,600 kilometers with the Balance. I am very positive about the Balance and I give it a 10!”
