vanRaam introduces BiSSA: oil-free comfort suspension

vanRaam is taking a significant technological step forward in bicycle development: the patented BiSSA® comfort-suspension. This new suspension system absorbs vibrations before they reach the rider. It operates without oil and requires minimal maintenance.
A new approach to suspension
Where conventional suspension systems rely on oil-filled shock absorbers, vanRaam has deliberately chosen a different approach with BiSSA® (Bi-Spring Shock Absorber). The system works entirely without oil and eliminates internal friction. As a result, the suspension responds instantly to movement and uneven road surfaces.
The adjustable seat is mounted on a parallelogram construction supported by this specially developed suspension system. The engineers combined a steel spring, which can be adjusted to the rider's weight, with a friction-free integrated high-tech elastomer originally developed for the automotive industry.

Two springs working together
The name Bi-Spring refers to the two components that work together to provide the suspension:
A coil spring (steel spring) that supports the rider's weight and allows the seat to move smoothly.
A Cellasto® element (an elastomer) that absorbs and dampens vibrations.
The coil spring provides the suspension, while the Cellasto element delivers the damping. Together, they form the "two springs" behind the Bi-Spring Shock Absorber concept.
Material innovation as the foundation
At the heart of BiSSA lies the use of advanced materials. In particular, Cellasto®, which absorbs vibrations and minor impacts exceptionally effectively. Originally developed for the automotive industry, this material has proven highly effective in reducing unwanted vibrations. By applying this technology to a new suspension concept, vanRaam achieves an effective reduction in NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness). Vibrations are absorbed directly at the source, resulting in a quieter and more stable riding experience.
In addition, the material helps protect mechanical components by sealing the radial bearings against dirt and dust. This keeps them cleaner and contributes to a longer service life.
The new seat cover, developed by seating specialist Ventisit, provides additional cushioning while creating a comfortable seating climate. The cushion consists of multiple layers of plastic mesh, with air making up a large part of its structure, offering both comfort and ventilation.

Low-maintenance and reliable
A traditional shock absorber works with oil: a piston moves through an oil-filled cylinder, and that resistance absorbs the impact. This works well, but oil can leak, evaporate, or become contaminated, causing the damping performance to decrease.
BiSSA works differently. The damping is not provided by oil, but by the Cellasto element itself. When subjected to an impact, the material deforms slightly and converts that movement into a small amount of heat through hysteresis. As a result, no oil is required, eliminating the risk of leakage and reducing maintenance requirements.
A step forward in mobility
With the introduction of BiSSA, vanRaam reinforces its commitment to innovation and user experience. By moving beyond conventional technologies and embracing a virtually friction-free suspension concept, the company offers a solution that delivers an immediately noticeable improvement in riding comfort.
