Sometimes you only realise how much knowledge and experience you have built up when you consciously take a moment to reflect on it. For Martin Kolsté, the skills passport at vanRaam was one of those moments. It gave him the opportunity to map out his skills and show what he has learned through practical experience.
From June to August 2025, vanRaam took part in the national skills passport pilot within the Metalektro sector. At vanRaam, around ten to fifteen colleagues from the assembly department participated in the pilot, including Martin.
For him, it immediately felt like a special opportunity to contribute to something that could potentially be used more widely across the sector in the future.
Martin, together with the other employees from the assembly department, was invited to learn more about the skills passport. The initiative immediately appealed to him.
“When I first heard about the skills passport, I was immediately curious. It seemed like a strong concept to me, so I was keen to take part.”
According to Martin, the skills passport can be especially valuable for people who have developed their skills through practical experience.
“I thought: this is a great initiative for people without formal qualifications who might otherwise not get the opportunity. In practice, they often have a lot to offer and can be incredibly valuable.”
Martin was selected, together with four other colleagues, to take a further part in the pilot. During this next stage of the programme, they shared their experiences and had the opportunity to ask questions about the passport.
As part of the project, recordings were also made for a video about the skills passport. That turned out to be a special experience.
“On the filming day, I was surprised by how professionally everything had been organised. There were large lights and cameras set up throughout the showroom. It definitely brought a bit of healthy nerves.”

For Martin, the skills passport is also an opportunity to reflect on his personal development. He has now been working at vanRaam for nine years and, during that time, has gained experience in various areas within the assembly department. These days, he works in pre-assembly, where he regularly helps colleagues with different tasks.
“I still really enjoy working in pre-assembly. I also often help colleagues with other tasks, so no two days are ever the same.”
According to Martin, the skills passport mainly highlights what people are truly capable of in their work.
