In the spirit of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Oaknoll Retirement Residence was hosting their annual Silver Games at Clear Creek Amana High School on Friday, August 12, 2016. At the Silver Games there were various specialized Van Raam trikes to ride on.

Care Retirement Community hosting Silver games

Oaknoll is a not-for-profit, Continuing Care Retirement Community which has been providing LifeCare in the greater Iowa City community since 1966. Silver Games in Tiffin Iowa gave local senior citizens opportunities to ride adapted bikes thanks to one of our Van Raam dealers, All Ability Cycles.

The Silver Games are a friendly competitive venue bringing together residents from assisted living, nursing homes and retirement communities in the Southeast Iowa area. The idea of the games is to offer some friendly competition. Everyone will receive a medal and the activities are designed for all abilities. The Silver Games brings together our communities and spotlights our residents as a testament to healthy aging and active living, regardless of disabilities and is in the spirit of fun for all!

Testing Van Raam specialized trikes

For people with special needs (children, adults or the elderly) bike riding does not come easy. Trying to coordinate balance, pedaling and steering is an extremely difficult task. For those people  riding a two wheeler may never be a practical option. A good solution is a three wheel bike. At the Silver Games there were various specialized trikes to ride on:

Rides with special needs bikes at the Silver Games (VIDEO)

The video below captures the rides on the Van Raam bikes at the Silver Games in Tiffin. On the video they demonstrate the Easy Rider three wheel bike, the rotatable seat on the Fun2Go and you can see how you can rol a wheelchair on the flat platform of the VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike.

I believe cycling can enrich the lives of care community residents and staff.

John Brunow (All Ability Cycles)

According to John (All Ability Cycles) this video shows  that "Everyone Can Ride." That is also our Van Raam slogan “Let’s all cycle !”
